Wes and Bob Rydell
Our first glimpse of ’s 1935 Chevrolet fresh from the 50th Detroit Autorama and
winner of the coveted Ridler Award was at Blackie’s 43rd Invitational,
The Fresno Autorama (see our feature on Blackie’s 43rd Invitational in the
October issue of Street Rodder.)
We arrived early before the show
opened to the public and found the extraordinary award winner afloat silver-gray
carpet and strategically placed in the center of the Convention Hall.
As the final detailing touches were made to the impressive display,
members of the Rydell team were on hand to talk with us about this remarkable
sedan and the overall reshape that had taken place during the building process.
It was no surprise that Blackie bestowed his Best Custom Award to the
Rydell’s Grand Master.
With two prestigious awards
already claimed, we caught up with the Grand Master again at the Goodguys Del
Mar Nationals. In a completely different setting, the Grand Master took on a
